It all started when I was listening to daily devotions on the 24/7 Prayer Lectio 365 app. One particular day, the mention of Prayer Spaces in Schools captured my attention. I explored the Prayer Spaces in Schools website and realized there was a wealth of resources available. I reached out to four friends and shared my idea of running Prayer Spaces for the students at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School where we have had an existing relationship with the school. I was motivated by the idea that we could create a space where in the business of school life, students could have a place to pause, to reflect and to be encouraged to pray.
We began meeting to plan and brainstorm how these prayer spaces could be structured, what resources were needed, and how to make it appealing and meaningful for students of all ages. We then approached the leadership team at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School to present our ideas and we were given the green light to go ahead.
The team began setting up prayer spaces in both the Primary and Secondary areas of the school in public spaces like the library or foyer. These spaces were designed to be visually engaging, interactive and inclusive, with a variety of activities and themes to engage students.
Recently we have again met with the school leadership team and we have now been invited to run prayer spaces within the RE classes. The resources provided on the Prayer Spaces in Schools website have been instrumental in giving us an achievable way to encourage prayer within the life of the school.
