“It gave me a moment to be still”

25th October 2024

Classroom

This year we had Sue Allison from Prayer Spaces in Schools visit our school in the last two weeks of term to run Prayer Spaces for our Prep to Grade 6 students. The creative, activity based prayer stations engaged the wide variety of students and it was touching to see the students reflections and hear what was on their heart.

The atmosphere in the room was so calm and peaceful. Many of the students reflected how much they appreciated the opportunity to slow down and be still. Students also reflected how much they loved the ‘Big Questions’ as they had an opportunity to think about God and express their thoughts.

I will definitely run prayer spaces again next year as it gave the students an opportunity to engage in prayer in a personal way that was different to what they have experienced in school assemblies and other more formal ways they have experienced prayer.

Students Reflections

“ I like the “Big Questions” space because I had so many questions in my head and I wanted to get them out”

Grade 3 girl.

“I really liked the calm jars because it took a moment so I could just close my eyes and think of something and I haven’t had that in a while because it’s been really busy and it was good to take a moment and just relax.”

Grade 5 girl

“ I loved the playdough as it was fun modelling everything I was thankful for in my mind”

Grade 4 boy

“ I liked the healing station because I got to talk to God about what I would like for my Grandma so she could feel better and I think that brought me closer to God”

Grade 3 Girl

“ I liked the Big Questions because I had so many questions I wanted to ask God”

Grade 5 boy.

“ I loved  the character cards as they put a smile on my face as I really liked to know what my strengths were and it was helpful to understand what my friends strengths were too.”

Grade 6 girl

“ I enjoyed the “Empty Plate’ activity as I liked drawing the food and praying for people who don’t have enough food and are going hungry”
